Heritage Open Day

Sunday 13th September, 2026

2 to 6pm

Enjoy free admission to one of the UK’s most important 20th-century landscapes this September, created by Sir Frederick Gibberd, the architect behind Harlow.

Highlights you don’t want to miss:

• Outdoor Rooms & Sculptures: Wander through a whimsical landscape filled with dynamic sculptures, architectural salvage and a miniature moated castle nestled alongside the river.
• The Living Museum: Tour the former home of Sir Frederick and Lady Patricia Gibberd, preserved to offer an intimate glimpse into the architect’s personal life. Tickets are available on the day on a first-come, first-served basis from the garden shop. Timed entry runs from 3 to 5pm
• New Gallery Exhibition: View The Garden as a Studio, an exciting show in the White Room gallery featuring work by current artists-in-residence Jordan Cook, Jake Husband, and Sam J. Roper. Plus you can have exclusive Access for the first time to explore the newly transformed upstairs Artist Studios.
• Guided Insights: Knowledgeable volunteers will be available throughout the site to share stories of the garden’s evolution and Sir Frederick’s enduring legacy.

Autumn Colours

Throughout October, the garden transitions into its autumn palette of deep reds, oranges, and golds, offering a quiet, seasonal backdrop to Sir Frederick Gibberd’s collection of sculptures and architectural clearings. It is the final opportunity of the year to visit the site before it closes for the winter months.

The garden opens for autumn color viewings every Sunday and Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 6pm, with the Barn Cafe available for light refreshments. The season concludes on Sunday 25th October with a special Final Open Day and Souper Sunday, running from 12 to 4pm, where visitors can enjoy the remaining autumn foliage alongside hot, homemade soup and bread.

The Gibberd Garden is welcoming visitors for 2026, and will be open from April 1st to October 25th every Wednesday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 2 – 6 pm.

Admission Prices:

• Adults: £6.00
• Concessions: £5.00
• Children 5 – 16yrs: £1.00 (under 5’s free)
• National Art Pass: £3.00
• Friends of The Gibberd Garden and Historic Houses: Free
